Co-reactive Raises €6.5 Million in Seed Funding for Its Carbon-Negative Construction Materials Technology

Press release - January 28, 2026

● The company’s technology continuously mineralizes CO₂ and converts emissions into high-performance, carbon-negative supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs);
● The financing round is led by High-Tech Gründerfonds (HTGF). Additional investors include AFI Ventures (Ventech’s early-stage impact arm), NRW.Bank, HBG Ventures, Evercurious VC, as well as climate-tech business angels;
● Co-reactive is now scaling from prototype to a continuous 1,000-ton demonstration plant and preparing industrial pilot plants at the tens-of-thousands-of-tons scale.

Founded in 2024, Co-reactive has developed a continuous process that converts CO₂ in combination with natural minerals such as olivine or metallurgical slags (EAF & BOF) into high-performance, carbon-negative supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs). These materials enable a significant reduction in clinker content in cement and construction materials, thereby substantially lowering their carbon footprint. At the same time, they improve compressive strength and durability. The solution is designed as a “drop-in” technology that can be seamlessly integrated into existing production processes.

In doing so, Co-reactive addresses two major challenges facing the industry:

High emissions: Cement production accounts for approximately 8% of global CO₂ emissions. With rising carbon prices, production costs are expected to double over the next decade.
Raw material scarcity: Conventional cement substitutes such as fly ash and ground granulated blast furnace slag are becoming increasingly scarce due to the phase-out of coal and the transformation of the steel industry.

With this seed financing, Co-reactive will scale its current laboratory and pilot operations in Q2 2026 to a continuous demonstration plant with a capacity of approximately 1,000 tons per year. In parallel, the company is working with industrial partners to prepare first-generation industrial plants at the tens-of-thousands-of-tons scale which, from 2027 onwards, are intended to mineralize biogenic or process-related carbon streams directly at cement and steel production sites.

Dr.-Ing. Andreas Bremen, Co-founder and CEO of Co-reactive, commented:

“Financing and scientific research are the foundation — but true transformation only happens through entrepreneurial action. With the right co-founders and an interdisciplinary team, we are taking CO₂ mineralization from the laboratory to continuous industrial operation. The support of our financial partners, with HTGF as lead investor, enables us to demonstrate performance with a 1,000-ton demonstration plant and to prepare large-scale deployment together with industry. We are building today a solution that is urgently needed to deliver industrial-scale impact tomorrow.”

Constantin de Chaudenay, Senior Associate at AFI Ventures, added:

“At AFI Ventures, we are proud to support Co-reactive in building an industrial solution capable of delivering real impact in one of the world’s most carbon-intensive sectors: cement. Andreas, Orlando and Willi have successfully transformed a complex scientific innovation into a scalable technology with a clear path to commercial deployment. By converting CO₂ into a valuable input for construction, Co-reactive is addressing a massive market with a proposition that is both industrially credible and highly ambitious from a climate perspective.”

About Co-reactive

Co-reactive GmbH is a climate-tech startup founded in 2024 and headquartered in Düsseldorf, Germany. The company develops continuous CO₂ mineralization technology that uses captured carbon and magnesium- or calcium-containing silicate minerals — such as olivine or metallurgical slags — to produce highly reactive supplementary cementitious materials. These materials have a negative CO₂ footprint and enable a significant reduction in clinker content in cement and construction materials without compromising performance.

Co-reactive works across the entire value chain with carbon and raw material suppliers, cement and concrete producers, and certification bodies to prepare the transition from pilot plants to large-scale industrial facilities in the range of 100 to 300 kilotons. The team combines expertise in carbon mineralization, plant engineering, commercialization, and the scaling of sustainable technologies.

About AFI Ventures

AFI Ventures is a pre-seed and seed impact fund supporting startups addressing major environmental and social challenges. Managed by Ventech and backed by €30 million, AFI Ventures is committed to supporting the emergence and scaling of entrepreneurs operating at the intersection of for-profit and for-good, developing fairer and more sustainable solutions across all sectors of the economy in France and across Europe.
