The N.C. Department of Labor honored drug discovery and development company SCYNEXIS Inc. as a participant in the Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP). The program recognizes companies for a commitment to the safety and health of their employees.
Labor Commissioner Cherie Berry presented company officials with the SHARP certificates and flags at a ceremony at its Tricenter Boulevard facility in Durham on Wednesday, Sept. 8. The company’s Kit Creek Drive facility also received SHARP recognition at the ceremony.
“Your hard work on safety makes a difference for everyone,” Commissioner Berry said. “This is a wonderful program because it recognizes employee ownership and management’s support. You should be proud of what you have accomplished.”
The SHARP award is designed for small to mid-size businesses. Companies that qualify for the award show that they have developed and maintained good safety programs for workers. To qualify for the program, injury and illness rates for the site must be below the national average for the industry, and NCDOL safety and health consultants must complete an assessment of the workplace. There are 98 sites in the program throughout North Carolina. SCYNEXIS is the only current participant in Durham County.
“SCYNEXIS scientists handle many chemicals and biological materials in a research laboratory setting, so we take safety very seriously and we’re especially proud of this award,” said CEO Yves Ribeill.
